"The FieldCast project now is becoming mature and can bring our cable products to new markets", says Thomas Schmidt, CEO of Rosenberger OSI. "We are good at manufacturing highest quality fiber optic cable solutions, and we want to keep focused on that, giving FieldCast the best foundation it can possibly have, a perfect cable, and let it go its own way."
At the Rosenberger OSI booth, 11.E39, FieldCast will showcase its 2Core Hybrid cable, a new fiber optic cable solution with copper wire for powering converters, cameras and other equipment in the field. In addition, FieldCast will introduce its first hybrid adapters and converters to go with it. "These new products clearly show what we want to achieve" explaines Theo Stals, managing director of Mediamachine. "Fiber optics is an established technology, and going 4K and beyond we need it, but the industry has to come up with simpler, easier to use, and affordable connectivity to get it widely accepted. And that's exactly what we are working on."
The popular Fiberbrik Adapters from now on will be named FieldCast Adapters and become an important part of the system. New FieldCast adapters will be added, starting with the very powerful Adapter Two Hybrid for Blackmagic Design Studio Camera. This adapter links bi-directional video, full camera control aÌnd power to the camera over just one FieldCast 2Core Hybrid cable, enabling the user to freely move inside of the studio or bridge longer distances in the field without any battery or local power supply. "It all adds up", continues Schmidt. "We developed a thrilling new hybrid cable, small form factor and low cost, and FieldCast already can bring an adapter to market that can get the max out of it and really make it work. This is a perfect example of how both our companies want to move, jointly, and in close cooperation, if only to show to the world the very flexibility and usability of a beautiful technology that deserves to come into the light."
Next to the adapter line, FieldCast is introducing a fiber optic converter line, starting with 3G SDI over fiber, 1-channel, 2-channel and 4-channel over only one fiber strand, and DVI & USB over two fiber strands. These products will start to ship in November 2015, followed by serial camera control over fiber with built-in bi-directional 3G SDI video and a smart fiber optic solution for linking to uncompressed wireless video. "All product will have a sturdy FieldCast fiber optic connector built in", Stals adds. "No difficult patching, no clutter, no complicated bridging, it has to be plug and play all the way. And we are getting there, it seems: we are really proud that Blackmagic Design have chosen FieldCast cabling for all fiber optic connections at their IBC2015 booth!"
FieldCast will actively expand its channel worldwide, and bring its products as close to the end user as possible. FieldCast already has distributors in the UK, in most part of Europe, and in the Middle East, and its products will become available in the United States very soon. A separate, independent division for the FieldCast project is in the making, in order to maximize the speed of development and efficiency of distribution.
"We invite all manufacturers to have a good look at the cable solutions we offer" Stals concludes. "We are open to cooperation and get our connectors accepted and integrated in as many third party fiber optic products as possible. And we can customize, we are as flexible as our cable!"
